Eyelid lift surgery

Eyelid lift surgery is preferred mainly because of its striking results and the short and easy recovery time. This procedure makes you 10-15 years younger and is very common.

Drooping eyelids are sometimes caused by genetic reasons, poor sleep and fatigue. These changes in the eyelids make us look older and more tired.

There are complaints such as saggy skin on the eyelids, wrinkling, streaking, and swelling of the lower eyelids, colour changes and dark circles under the eyes. All of this makes the affected person look old and tired. Affected people no longer feel good with their eyes and this situation puts a strain on them.

The excessive slackness of the skin causes the upper eyelids to droop. This can lead to the affected person's field of vision being reduced. Patients complain that their vision is narrowed and that they have difficulty seeing.

In these cases, an eyelid lift (also called blepharoplasty) is essential. This procedure can be combined with many other procedures such as cheek surgery, neck surgery, eyebrow lift and face lift.

As before any operation, you should not smoke or take any blood-thinning medication such as aspirin before an eyelid lift. This also applies to the first seven days after the procedure. Bleeding could occur and wound healing could be impaired.

Eye tightening - anesthesia

An upper eyelid lift can easily be done with local anesthesia. A lower eyelid lift is performed with sedation or general anesthesia.

Treatments during an eyelid lift

The eyelid lift lasts between 20 and 30 minutes per eye. The excess skin, the tissue underneath and the fat layer are removed. After this removal, the scar is closed. Because sufficient excess skin is removed, this procedure lasts a lifetime.

The eyelid lift should be done very carefully. The tissue should never be removed aggressively. After removal, the cut should be exactly between the two corners of the eyelid. Since there are already small wrinkles at this point, the cut will not be noticeable and will not disturb you.

To remove excess muscle, skin, and fat on the lower eyelid, an incision is made just below the eyelashes. If necessary, the muscle layer is strengthened to correct slackness.

The lower eyelid lift only removes 1-2 mm of skin. In no case should more skin be removed.

At this point, not all of the skin but only the excess skin should be removed. When tightening the lower eyelid, it is important to adjust the muscle so that there is slight tension.

After the procedure, the incisions are closed. Over time, the scars are no longer noticeable. The lower eyelid lift may only remove excess skin. An eyelid lift in younger patients often does not remove any skin at all.

After Eyelid Lifting

After an eyelid lift, very thin patches are used so that you can see. Your eyes will not be injured by this surgery. You should cool your eyes for the first 24 hours to prevent swelling and bruising. In any case, minimal swelling is to be expected.

Unfortunately, due to the flexible skin of the eyelids, it swells up very quickly. However, the faster the skin recovered. After two days the scar is cleaned and new plasters are put on.
